SCAPE Scotland's Community Legacy Programme help upgrade Cyrenians’ depot to strengthen their support for people in need by expanding food distribution and creating new training opportunities.

Cyrenians, an Edinburgh charity tackling homelessness, run the Good Food Depot with FareShare, supplying surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill to 20,000 people each week.

Rising demand led them to relocate to a larger facility that required significant internal upgrades. With support from SCAPE Scotland and framework delivery partners, AtkinsRéalis, Kier, Balfour Beatty, RJ McLeod and Morgan Sindall Construction, and SCAPE Reinvest, they created two new office spaces and a training and conference room where they could offer accredited forklift training courses on site.

The upgraded depot helps the charity continue to support people in need by expanding food distribution with Cyrenians projecting that they will be able to double their food distribution from 2 million to 4 million meals per year, improving the wellbeing for staff and volunteers and providing new training opportunities.
