Restoring the A-Listed Victorian Palm Houses
2019
Restoration of the A-Listed Victorian Palm Houses at Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Gardens

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, with a history spanning 351 years, serves as a vital centre for plant science and conservation. The Edinburgh Biomes project aimed to restore the A-Listed Victorian Palm Houses and the 1960s Glasshouses, protecting 13,500 plant species, including many endangered ones.

Balfour Beatty, through the SCAPE Scotland Civil Engineering framework, led the extensive refurbishment, marking a significant effort to maintain a safe environment for the garden's invaluable plant collection.

“Restoring the palm houses and the other glasshouses will give us assurance and protection for generations to come.”
